Layers are the most requested haircut in my chair and the most commonly ruined one. Here is exactly what I do, what it costs, which layers suit your hair, and who this cut is not for.
What my signature layered haircut actually is
It is one cut, customized. The goal is layers that create movement and beautifully frame your face, cut so they still look intentional four months later instead of turning into a shelf. Three things make it work.
- Face-framing that starts where your face needs it, not at a standard length. Where the shortest front piece falls is the single decision that changes how a layered cut reads on you
- Internal layers placed for weight removal, so thick hair gets lighter and fine hair keeps its density at the perimeter
- A grow-out plan built into the cut. I cut assuming you are coming back in 8 to 12 weeks, not 4

When in doubt, book up. A little extra time makes for a much better appointment. There is also Bang Maintenance at $20 for guests who already have bangs and just need them trimmed between haircuts.
Layers, face-framing, curtain bangs, butterfly cut: the difference
People book the wrong thing because these words get blurred together online.
- Layers are lengths cut throughout the interior of the hair to remove weight and create movement. They are structural
- Face-framing is the shaping around the front of your face. You can have face-framing without full layers, and layers without face-framing. They are separate decisions
- Curtain bangs are face-framing cut short enough to sweep away from a center part. They are forgiving and can go a long time between trims
- Traditional bangs need a trim roughly every 4 to 6 weeks to stay in the right place
- The butterfly cut is a layered cut with a big gap between the shortest interior layers and the longest lengths. Very voluminous when styled, very disconnected when it is not. It is a styling-dependent haircut
A "long layered cut" in a photo is usually a normal layered cut on a specific hair texture, styled with a round brush. If your hair is not that texture, the same cut will not look like that photo. That is a texture and styling issue, not a haircut issue, and it is worth talking through at your consultation.
Which layers suit your hair
- Fine hair: fewer, longer layers kept close together. Aggressive layering takes away the little density you have at the ends, so face-framing does most of the work
- Thick, dense hair: internal weight removal is the priority. Without it, layers just create a triangle
- Wavy hair: layers are your friend, but they have to be placed so the wave stacks instead of expands
- Straight hair: layers show every line, so precision matters more and the blowout is what makes them visible
- Everyday straight, no heat: tell me, and we go lighter on the layers. It just looks and feels better that way
How often should you get a layered haircut?
Every 8 to 12 weeks is typical. One of the goals of this style is that it grows out well, so you will not feel like you need to come in constantly to keep it looking good. If you keep bangs, a $20 bang maintenance visit in between will keep them right without touching your length.
If your goal is growing your hair out, you still trim. A layered cut that goes six months without a trim does not look longer. It looks heavier at the bottom and thinner at the ends.
Is this cut right for you?
This service is for you if
Your hair feels heavy or flat and you want movement and shape. You have shoulder-length hair or longer and want it to frame your face better. You want a style that grows out well and you are happy to blow it out with a round brush.
This service is not for you if
You want a pixie or a short cropped style, which I do not do. Or you wear curly hair fully natural with no heat, where a dedicated curl specialist who cuts dry will serve you better. Ask me either way and I will refer you.
How to get the most out of your appointment
- Come with your hair down and dry, in its normal state. Do not flat iron it if you never wear it that way
- Bring two or three photos, and one photo of something you do not want. The "no" photos tell me more than the "yes" ones
- Tell me how many minutes you actually spend on your hair in the morning. A haircut that needs 25 minutes is a bad haircut for someone with 5
- Tell me if you are growing something out, so I do not cut into it
- If you want a quiet appointment with no conversation, say so. Silent appointments are completely normal here
Styling layers at home
To get the most out of my Signature Style, a round brush is your best friend at home. The layers are built to move and flow, and a good blowout brings that to life. I personally love the Olivia Garden Gold XL barrel brush paired with a slim concentrator on your blow dryer.
- Rough dry to about 80 percent before you pick up a round brush. Starting on soaking hair is why it takes you an hour
- Direct the airflow down the hair shaft, not at it
- Heat protectant, every time
- Set the shape with a cool shot at the end of each section. This is the step most people skip and the one that makes it hold
- For second-day volume, clip the roots up while the hair is still slightly warm

No. Pixies and short styles are not my strong suit, and this service is designed for shoulder-length hair or longer. Ask me and I will refer you to a local stylist who specializes in short cuts.
Will this work on wavy or curly hair?
My Signature Style is designed to be blown out with a round brush, and that is where the shape and movement come from. It works great on wavy hair when styled. If you have curly hair and prefer to wear it naturally without heat, this particular cut may not give you the result you are looking for.
How often should I come in for a trim?
Every 8 to 12 weeks is typical for maintaining a layered cut. The style is built to grow out well, so you should not feel like you need to come in constantly.
Can I add a haircut to a color appointment?
Yes. Add it when you book online so the time is reserved. Many guests pair a haircut with a gloss or a blonding service.
